Registrations can be held on the DVLA certificate provided, for up to 10 years. By law, you must ensure that you do not fit or assign a number plate to a vehicle that is older than the registration identifier. However, dateless registrations are built up of between 1 and 3 letters and between 1 and 4 numbers and can go onto any vehicle, regardless of age.
Can I put any personalised plate on my vehicle?
You cannot make your car look newer/younger than it is by using a more current year than its first date of registration.
➤How will Fast-Reg supply my registration?
Either you can get a DVLA Retention Certificate, or we can handle this process for you through a Fast-Reg Transfer.
➤Which documents will we need to transfer your private plate on to your vehicle?
The most recent V5C document for your vehicle, details of the current MOT Test (if applicable), and the name and address of the Registered Keeper
➤What happens to my current registration?
Your current plate will automatically be made void unless you pay the DVLA to retain it. The current retention fee is £80.00 which will entitle you to retain the number. The number plate will be transferred onto a certificate that you can later use to put onto a vehicle. If you do not retain the number on a certificate or transfer it to another vehicle, then it will be lost when you receive your amended V5C showing your new registration.
➤I’ve changed my mind, can I get a refund or change for another plate?
Any deposit/part payment taken is non- refundable.
➤Does the purchase price include physical acrylic plates?
The prices you see advertised are for the purchase of the registration only, the legal ownership of the plate. For the physical acrylic plate, you will have to arrange this separately.
➤What payment options are available?
Credit or Debit Card (All Major cards accepted)
➤Can I buy a number plate as a gift?
Yes you can! We will just need the name of the person the vehicle is registered to.
➤How can I trust buying and selling through Fast-Reg?
At Fast-Reg we will only collect necessary information, and will never pass your personal information on to a third party company. Fast-Reg use a secure and advanced payment system through Stripe (click to check) payments which are certified to the highest compliance standards. At Fast-Reg we believe in transparency; we encourage all our clients to leave honest and reliable feedback which are broadcast on platforms such as Trustpilot and Facebook. We are also proud members of MIRAD (The Institute of Registration Agents and Dealers). This is our trade governing body and protects your purchase of Personalised, Private and Cherished car number plates through us. Fast-Reg are officially registered with the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA RNPS Supplier Number: 55942) to supply number plates for vehicles registered in the UK and Northern Ireland.
➤Do I need to inform my insurers that I have a new private registration?
Yes, please update your car insurance company so that they can update your records for accuracy. When you inform your insurer that your registration number has changed, it’s also a good idea to obtain a letter from them confirming that they have no interest in the registration plate. In case of theft or damage to your vehicle, this letter will confirm that you have all rights to the number plate.
➤What happens after the number plate is transferred to my vehicle?
When your transfer has been completed, you will receive a new V5C from DVLA Swansea usually around 3-5 working days after. This is proof that you must keep safe that the transfer has been completed at DVLA. It is then your responsibility to inform your insurance company that the registration number has been changed and to purchase and fit the new plastic number plates on to your vehicle.
➤How do I sell my cherished registration mark with you?
Fast-Reg provide a free selling service. Please visit our “Sell a plate” page, fill out our form with details about your plate and your contact details. A member of our sales team will endeavour to get back to you in 1-2 working days with a free valuation of your plate. Our service will be to advertise the registration and to handle any dealings with the potential new buyer. Before advertising your plate, we will require signed and dated T&C’s to be returned to us. If we come to an agreement to sell your plate on commission, we will retain a percentage of the sale price as initially stated and send over the agreed money to you. Our administration fees are paid by the buyer. You would only need to pay a fee should you fail to supply us with the required documentation within the agreed time scale or change your mind about selling once a sale agreement has been made. All we require, is that you keep us updated regarding any changes to your details, asking price or if the plate is no longer available for sale.
➤How much is my cherished number plate worth?
At Fast-Reg, we will analyse the age and availability of your plate, the popularity of the name or initials represented, the desirability of the numbers (e.g lower numbers, higher the value) and we will compare current and historical prices. Based off all this information, we will provide you with a free valuation for your plate.
➤How long will it take to sell my cherished registration mark?
At Fast-Reg, we believe the key to selling your plate quickly is to get the asking price right. To do this, we thoroughly research the market and provide you with a valuation for your cherished plate. We will advertise and market your registration plate to prospective buyers. Your plate will be advertised on our website with the potential of thousands of viewers and keen number plate purchasers being able to view your plate. Due to private plates being such a personalised purchase, we can’t give you an exact timescale or date of sale. However, we can assure you that we will do our best to advertise and sell your plate. With your permission, we will also pass details of your cherished registration mark to our selected trade associates, who will also advertise and offer your plate to their customers. Don’t worry, we will deal with all negotiations and will ensure that you will only have to deal with us directly, as none of your personal details will be made available to our associates. Please note, at times, buyers will make offers on plates, we will contact you directly only when sensible offers are made. Ultimately, it will come down to you to either accept or decline offers made on your registration plate.
